|Vidya Balan, who bowled over the audiences and critics alike, with her bold performance in 2012 blockbuster hit ‘The Dirty Picture’, collected her first National Award for her portrayal of South siren Silk Smitha in the biopic, on Thursday. The talent powerhouse received the Rajat Kamal from Vice President Hamid Ansari. Vidya chose to wear a pink sari for the prestigious event, which was held at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan, and teamed it with a pair of diamond ‘jhumkas’. Her parents were by her side on her big day.
“I feel humbled to receive this award as it is the highest honour for an actor in the country . I just wish my team was here to share it with me. This award goes out to the Dirty Picture Team,” stated Vidya. Also present at the do was Vidya’s rumoured beau Siddharth Roy Kapoor, who collected the ‘Best Children’s Film Award’ for ‘Chillar Party’, on behalf of UTV Motion Pictures.
Sanjay Suri and director Onir were also present to receive the ‘Best Hindi Film’ award for their critically acclaimed film ‘I Am’.
