The much awaited SRK-Deepika jodi finally made its way to screens. The cast kept with the fun theme of the film and joked and laughed at the first look of Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express. The story is about a man whose entire life changes after he falls in love with the daughter of a don.

This is Golmaal director Rohit Shetty’s first love story.

“There are a lot of things I’ve done for the first time in this film”, says Shetty. He was all praise for his lead actor Shah Rukh, “Shah Rukh is a great actor and a superb person,” he said. This is both Deepika and Shah Rukh Khan’s first film with Rohit Shetty.

Deepika looked stunning in a cream white flowing Indian outfit at the trailer launch of the film. Deepika plays the role of a South-Indian girl in the film. Talking about her accent, she says, ” No it’s not dubbed. We worked really hard for it. And it’s now become a part of how I speak.” The actress was a good sport and even obliged us with a dialogue from the film in her South-Indian accent. The actress has always claimed she fell in love with Shah Rukh when she was just 8-9 years old. “Don’t we look great on screen?” she asked with a wide smile. Lead actor Shah Rukh Khan praised Rohit Shetty to the skies, “I’ve been meeting Rohit for the past 1 and half years. He’s a wonderful person. This is the only film I’ve worked in where the girls on set find the director more attractive than me,” he says jokingly.

Vidya Balan is all set to make her screen husband Emraan Hashmi undergo a lie detector test in a promotional activity for Ghanchakkar. According to reports, Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi who are on a promotion spree for their upcoming film Ghanchakkar will perform the act at an promotional event. This is not the only way Vidya and Emraan are promoting their film, the makers of the film have come up with other unique ideas. There was a buzz that Vidya will host at least three kitty parties in cities like Chandigarh, Delhi and Lucknow. Director Rajkumar Gupta says the idea for such an activity emerged after he overheard a conversation between a few ladies sitting at a kitty party. “We came up with the idea when Vidya and I overheard a conversation that a bunch of women were having during a kitty party. They were discussing their marriage, how lazy their partners could be and they were sometimes forgetful also. We immediately knew that we wanted to throw these parties and talk to the women about their lazy lads,” Gupta said in a statement. In an another attempt to promote their film, Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan will visit railway stations and sell train tickets to commuters across the city in order to promote their film.

Set for a June 28 release, Ghanchakkar will see Vidya with Emraan Hashmi together again. They had earlier teamed up for The Dirty Picture for which Vidya had won the National Award.

Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao starrer political saga Satyagraha’s teaser and poster has been released. The poster shows the lead actors of the film protesting and fighting with police with India Gate in the background. The film is directed by Prakash Jha and Amitabh Bachchan is playing a role inspired by Anna Hazare in the film. Satyagraha is the story of a son who yearns for a father. Of a father who grieves for his lost son. Of a young woman who fights so hard with life that she has forgotten to love. Of an ambitious rabble-rouser, for whom action is the knee-jerk mantra. It is the story of how these four discover one another, and come together to raise hell, shaking the powers that be to their very roots! Satyagraha is also the story of an influential power-hungry despot who will stop at nothing to destroy them. The movie is slated to release on August 23rd.

The music of upcoming romantic drama ‘Lootera’ was launched by its cast and crew in the showbiz capital Mumbai. Present at the event were lead actors Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh along with Music Director Amit Trivedi.Speaking on the occasion Sonakshi said that this film is their labour of Love and they are hoping for its success.The event even saw live musical performances by Swanand Kirkire, Amit Trivedi, Amitabh Bhattacharya and Monali Thakur who sang their own song from the film. The film which is a kind of handsome and old-fashioned period romance set in 1953 in rural Bengal and Dalhousie is slated for a 5th July release.

Of late, we have been seeing an increasing number of Bollywood stars rubbing shoulders with the who’s who of the western film industry. Taking things a bit differently is Bollywood’s perfectionist Khan, Aamir, who recently met none other than tech giant Microsoft’s co-founder Bill Gates.

The Microsoft co-founder Gates, who is currently on a tour to India, met with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan on May 30. Commenting on his blog Gates stated, “I’m looking forward to meeting Aamir Khan, the Bollywood star and activist. I want to hear about his work as a UNICEF ambassador for child nutrition. I also want to hear about his TV show, Satyamev Jayate (Truth Alone Prevails), which is shining a light on some critical issues facing India. And maybe, if I’m lucky, he’ll show me a few dance moves.”

We were filming a question-and-answer segment in front of a studio audience for his show on New Delhi Television, one of India’s largest news networks. Over the last 72 hours, Ranbir Kapoor has conquered the box office beyond anyone’s wildest expectations.

While the trade was expecting Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to open big, the actual collections have been simply mind-boggling. On Friday, the film took a cool Rs 19 crore plus opening; making it the second-highest, non-holiday opener, just behind Dabangg 2. The film received positive reviews and a largely encouraging word of mouth response. But large sections of the trade expected a slight drop on Saturday, as is the case with many big films. But YJHD went against the trend and showed healthy growth on Saturday by collecting more than Rs 20 crore. On Sunday the film added more steam to its victorious run and raked in even bigger numbers (approx Rs 23 crore), making it the first film in the history of Bollywood to have touched the Rs 60 crore mark in its opening weekend in India alone. This puts YJHD’s weekend numbers above Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, RaOne, Bodyguard and several other biggies that have made it to the 100-crore-club in the last few years.

With the film connecting with the youth in a big way, the trade expects the momentum to continue over the weekdays too and even though YJHD faces competition from a well-promoted Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (next week), the hundred-crore-mark now seems to be just a formality for this romcom. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has also done well overseas and has cemented the award-winning ‘Rockstar’s’ position as a salable solo-hero.

As of now, YJHD has beaten all other 2013 releases by a neat margin.

At the first look launch of ‘D-Day’, the cast and crew of the film were in full mood for masti as they pulled pranks on each other, while talking about the film. Rishi Kapoor and Arjun Rampal were full of antics on stage, even pointing fingers at each other. Shankar Mahadevan too gave the shutterbugs a good pic as he pretended to throttle director Nikhil Advani. There was also quite a bit of curiosity about Sree Swara Dubey, who plays Irrfan Khan’s wife in the film, since not many could identify her initially.

Most of the young actors of the current generation will tell you that the biggest regret of their career, as far as their pairing with the heroines are concerned, is that they didn’t get to work with Madhuri Dixit. Ranbir Kapoor is probably one of the few actors who won’t have to live with that, all thanks to Ayan Mukerji’s romcom, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and the song Ghagra!

In the video of the making of the song, you can see the director saying just how fortunate he is to be working with a legend such as Mads. Ranbir on the other hand says that the repertoire of expressions that Madhuri had during the song literally kept him on his toes, since he had to match up to the dancing queen in terms of attitude! Also, very cheekily he confesses that the fact he got to flirt with her and then kiss her on the cheek…what more could one ask for!

Also seen are directors Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar and Imtiaz Ali making a beeline for the sets, just to see the legend known as Madhuri Dixit in action! And Ms Nene on her part is just glad to be around a ‘chilled-out’ gang of professionals, doing what she does best – dance!

The promotions of the upcoming ‘Shootout at Wadala’ is in full swing, as movie is slated to release on May 3. Sunny Leone and Sophie Choudry gave a dazzling performance at a promotion event in Mumbai. Sunny Leone looked stunning in a traditional attire. She seemed to be very hopeful about the film. The actress will feature for the first time in an item song titled, ‘Laila’ in ‘Shootout At Wadala’. Other than Race 2, none of the other films released this year have taken a bumper opening. While Himmatwala managed a 31 crore weekend for itself, Special 26 had netted 28 crores. Now it is expected that Ek Thi Daayan would do better than that. Continued promotion, good hype, nice buzz, sustained marketing and extensive release means that there is no reason why Ek Thi Daayan shouldn’t manage a good start for itself. Moreover with Emraan Hashmi in there, who has managed quite a fan following for himself amongst masses, as well as a catchy title to boast of, Ek Thi Daayan should be on a winning path. However, all eyes would now be on whether the film would manage to break the 36 crore opening weekend record of Emraan’s last biggie Raaz 3. The horror show from Vikram Bhatt had gone through the roof and exceeded all expectations. However it must be added that the film was aided by popular music as well as sex quotient, something which isn’t the case for this Ekta Kapoor-Vishal Bhardwaj affair. Moreover, the film has a much darker feel to it when compared to some of the other successes that Emraan has delivered over the years.

All of this means that while the film would embark on a start of 50%-60% (which should be good considering a wide release), the solo release factor would mean that the whole week ahead would be all there for Ek Thi Daayan to exploit. The stage is set for the film to bring in some good moolah and all would eventually boil down to the content that first time director Kannan Iyer has to offer.

Shruti Haasan looks pretty, but debutant Girish Kumar still plays hide and seek. Looks like Bollywood is gearing up for a glitzy debut of another producer’s son – Girish Kumar, son of Tips honcho Kumar Taurani. And Girish’s launch vehicle Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya releases this June. Don’t know why, but it brings back memories of Jackky Bhagnani’s debut! But with this project, which is being directed by Prabhu Deva, we feel Girish is in safe hands and won’t need a second or third ‘debut’ or ‘relaunch’ to establish himself!

In the posters of the movie, we see Shruti Haasan as a bubbly Punjabi mundi, smiling with the lush green fields forming the backdrop, reminding us of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The lead actor, who is trying not to overexpose himself, is seen jumping over a fence but his face is almost half hidden. The movie, which borrows its name from the popular song from the 1955 movie Shree 420, is a remake of Prabhu Deva’s 2006 directorial debut, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana. The movie shows Girish as an NRI visiting Punjab where he falls head over heels in love with Shruti Haasan. However, her brother played by Sonu Sood challenges him to sow his own field and get a greater yield. The city slicker Girish takes on the challenge, and the troubles he faces along the way make for the crux of the film’s story.

After three back-to-back flops in “Oosaravelli”, “Shakti” and “Dammu”, Junior NTR has finally struck gold at the box-office with his Telugu action-drama “Baadshah”, which collected Rs.13.5 crore on release day worldwide. “The film, made on a budget of Rs.50 crore-plus, has registered a bumper opening on the first day all over. It has collected approximately Rs.13.5 crore and is running to packed houses everywhere,” said Trinath, trade analyst. “Thanks to the overwhelming response, the film has registered best opening ever in the career of Junior NTR,” he added.

“Baadshah” released worldwide April 5. Directed by Sreenu Vaitla, it shows how a common man is forced to turn bad in order to overthrow a ruthless Don, wanted by the Interpol for acts of terrorism. The film has got mixed reviews, but critics found it “highly entertaining”.

With “Baadshah”, director Vaitla has scored his seventh hit in a row. His previous hits are “Dhee”, “Dubai Seenu”, “Ready”, “King”, “Namo Venkatesa” and “Dookudu”.

Rakesh Roshan has taken the prized Diwali release to the next level. Moving away from the traditional Friday screening, he has has decided to releasae ‘Krrish 3′ on Sunday, Nov 3, which is Diwali.
