Taron Egerton Shares What It’s Like Playing Elton John in ‘Rocketman’

We all needed a pick-me-up after the 91st Academy Awards ended with the acceptance speech equivalent of a giant, wet fart. Thankfully, Elton John and his soon-to-be Hollywood doppelganger Taron Egerton were ready and waiting.

The duo took the stage at an annual Academy Awards viewing party held in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with John on piano and Egerton on vocals as the two delivered a top-notch rendition of the classic tune, “Tiny Dancer.” It was a successful night overall, too, with the 27-year-old nonprofit taking in more than $6 million.

Singing wasn’t a huge stretch for Egerton, of course. He has the starring role in Rocketman, a John biopic that’s set to hit theaters on May 31.
