News … ‘Bridesmaids,’ ‘Hunger Games’ Top MTV Movie Awards Nominations More …
May 3rd 2012

It may be ladies night at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on June 3, as two female-driven flicks — “Bridesmaids” and “The Hunger Games” — lead all contenders with eight nominations each. The show, which will air live on MTV from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, is once again allowing fans to choose the Movie of the Year winner, with voting open today at MTV.com and continuing through the broadcast on June 3. Movie of the Year contenders include “Bridesmaids” and “The Hunger Games,” as well as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” “The Help” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1.”

Six performers — Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Josh Hutcherson — lead the individual competition with four nominations each.

Meanwhile, new categories for the 2012 Awards include Best On-Screen Dirtbag and Best Gut-Wrenching Performances, and for the first time the nominees were chosen by a panel of industry insiders instead of online voting.
